Forum: GratefulDead Subject: fav GD t-shirt?

I'm sure we all bought shirts at shows that maybe we even still have, or don't have but was one of our favorites.

1.Phil shirt that said "LESH" at the top as if it was a famous beer ad, and on the back it said "Bass Great, Lesh Philling". My wife was wearing it when she rear-ended a car on the hwy, & the f'n amublance crew cut it off of her, so no more shirt.

2.Another Phil shirt with the same batik image of him that's on the cover of his book---still have it somewhere.

3. A shirt with the Grinch sitting on top of a sled full of presents. Under the Christmas tree were boxes that all had tags reading the names of songs that had been broken out recently (the pkg's were opened), and unopened pkg's with the tags reading songs we wanted to hear. Dark Star, Unbroken Chain, Pride of Cucamonga, If I had The World To Give, Loose Lucy, Lost Sailor, and a few others I don't remember. I still have this one somewhere as well. "I may not have the world to give, but maybe I have a tune or two..." said the Grinch" was written on the bottom.

4. Bought a shirt in Pittsburgh @ 3 Rivers in '90 that had the Ying-Yang on the front with white skeleton in the black Yang, and a black skeleton in the white Ying. The back of the shirt had an Uncle Sam skeleton leaning on his arm giving a peace sign, and he was laying in front of an American flag.

5. There was ONE tye-dye I bought from some dude whose shirts were hand dyed and beautiful---it was mostly purple with a great mandala image in the center. I'm not a huge fan of tye-die, but this one was incredible.

It's disappointing that I don't ever recall seeing any shirts with Billy, Mickey, Vince, or Bruce. I'm sure I saw some R.I.P. Brent shirts, though I never bought or traded for any.

Anyone else have/had shirts they loved? You can mention any of them, but we all know the tour shirts sold by the brothas at most venues---I didn't find those original enough to ever buy one.

I bought a kind Cat in the Hat shirt at RFK. It had some trippy background with the cat smokin a dube. Had people offer different things for it, but kept it.
That was another aspect of Dead shows that made it GREAT

Are you f-in kidding me? My wife's alter ego is tigger with a tattoo as well. She's a teacher and has the book, Tao of Pooh, which gets into symbolisms and personalities surrounding the characters.

Had a shirt from around 86 or so that was always my favorite... It had Tom the cat holding a little Jerry in his paw. The Jerry figure had on a red t-shirt and his belly button was showing. The caption was "Tom & Jerry" of course. There was a skeleton falling through space on the back. Never saw another one like it as it was definitely hand-made. If I remeber correctly, I paid $5 for it. Still have it tucked nicely into a drawer, although it is so thread bare it can't be worn.

I've got a shirt with a realy big piture of Jerry from '70 that's kinda thread-bare as well. I'm going to cut out the print & have it mounted to hang on the wall. There has to be some sort of fabric protector we could use to set the threads better for longer preservation. This is the only way I can figure on being able to enjoy the images ALL the time.

Funny you should bring up t-shirts, I was thinking of a guy from Babylon who made shirts and I could not remmeber his name. The day after the 8/21 Ratdog show I was talking to my friend's parents and the asked about the show, and I mentioned that it was Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead's band. My friends mom said something like "Oh remember so and so who made shirts, I think his name was Greg Donahue" and I said "I was just thinking about him the other day and could not remembr his name, but I don't think it was Greg". And she said "I heard he died". I said "Hmm". So later on I did some googling and discovered that Ed Donohue (the fellows real name) had indeed passed away. He was quite a bit older than I was and I only met him once or twice, I think I was about 13 and was checking out all of the shirts he had just screened and had out drying, I asked him how much and he said $20 or $25 dollars (which was way out of my budget) so I did not buy one. I found one of his shirts on ebay the other day but it is gone now - So the fav shirt is the one I did not buy.

Yeah Tree, I remember that Lesh shirt. I had one just like it for over 15 years. I left it in a cab after seeing Lesh on 7-15-05 at the Fillmore. To this day I still have a ceramony on July 15th--the day I lost my favorite shirt in Denver:( The shirt that I do have left (for 15 years now) has become my favorite is a take-off of the old Reebok adds. It reads:
LIFE IS SHORT
TRIP HARD

Does anyone remember the clown blotter in the 80's? I had a shirt with the same clown face on it, huge on the front.

It would freak out the buggin' people at the shows!!!!
